MORE INFORMATION

Sow: Carrots like open, dry and light locations. In your pots plant two seeds per pot at a depth of about 1-2cm. Plant your pot into your bed in rows, at this point they can be close together.

Grow: As the carrot seedlings grow thin these out and re-plant to 10cm apart.

Tend: it is important that you keep the carrot area weed free and this is best done by hand so that you don’t damage the seedlings. Keep an eye out for carrot fly! This is a really harsh pest. If your carrots get affected by carrot fly you will have to pull up the crop and destroy them. Mesh or netting is a good way of keep this from happening.

Harvest: About 10-12 weeks after you sowed the seeds the carrots should be ready to harvest. You can leave them in the ground for longer and extend the picking period. That being said the longer you leave them the more at risk they are. You are best to harvest and store the carrots in sand filled boxes.
